Adobe trying to take over multimedia mobile software
Vote this article
Adobe hopes to solve this problem by launching a next generation media player to replace Flash Lite, the current version of Adobe's desktop Internet Media Player for mobile phones which provides customers with web browsing, video and interactive content.
The new media player, which is supposed to make it easy for video and animated content to be seen across multiple mobile platforms will be released by mid-2009.
In order for the new media player to reach as many customers as possible, Adobe along with companies such as Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson,Samsung, and others, have launched the Open Screen Project.
The Open Screen Project aims to unify multimedia mobile software and by doing so to remove barriers for mobile phone software developers.
How does Adobe plan to do so ? By not charging any more licensing fees and publishing information about Flash technology and even code for the new media player.
Despite Microsoft response - which is trying to do the same thing with Silverlight, The Open Screen Project has great chances of reaching its goal, since Adobe technologies are already widely spread(almost every net-connected PC has a Flash version installed ).
