Faster Internet one step away

click to enlarge Today, the fastest Internet connection is the broadband provided through fiber-optic lines. This type of connection is now up to 10 times faster than broadband by cable lines. But a new Internet generation is on the way since it is estimated that with just some updates broadband via fiber-optic lines could become up to 100 times faster.

With the current Internet speed users are able to download and transfer all sort of files even of considerable sizes, which was practically impossible for the previous Internet dial-up. The new improved Internet will also bring new facilities on the table: High Definition video conferences and highly interactive new games.

All good news so far, but there are regions, even in the most developed countries, where there is no fiber-optic infrastructure. For example 90% of the USA territory has access to the Internet, but only a quarter of the country has fiber-optic lines, and in Sweden is estimated that only half of all houses in the country will have fiber-optic lines by 2012.

Despite the debates brought by the fact that not everybody will be able to use the new Internet generation once it is launched, since the costs of the equipment are dropping, it is safe to say that the new Internet will reach as many households as possible.
